FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Humane Society of the United States Calls on Nike to Drop Michael Vick Based on Dogfighting Evidence

June 19, 2007 – The Humane Society of the United States is calling on Nike, Inc. to terminate its commercial association with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. In a letter sent yesterday to the company’s Beaverton, Ore. headquarters, Wayne Pacelle, HSUS president and CEO called on Mark Parker, Nike president and CEO, to drop the NFL star as a corporate spokesperson as soon as is contractually feasible because of Vick’s possible association with an alleged dogfighting operation on property he owned in Virginia. Nike is the world’s largest supplier of sportswear.

In the letter, Pacelle writes that The HSUS “…knows that Nike has high standards for its spokespersons, and urges Nike to terminate its relationship with Vick as soon as is feasible…we trust Nike does not want to be associated with any celebrity who is linked to this odious form of animal cruelty.”

Dogfighting is an epidemic in the nation, and The HSUS does not want to see young people drawn into this criminal activity because prominent athletes and other celebrities glorify or romanticize the practice. Even though dogfighting is a felony in 48 states, and also a federal felony, the practice occurs in every state and has been surging in urban communities in the last decade.

Since the story first broke back on April 26th, evidence has been revealed in the media describing typical signs of dogfighting allegedly taking place at Vick’s former property in Surry County, Va.

Air Tran Airways decided not to renew its contract with Mr. Vick earlier this month, and did so without any specific prompting from The HSUS.

The HSUS has called on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to take swift action against Vick if any criminal charges are filed against him, in keeping with the new disciplinary policy the league instituted.

Colgate recall different from fake Colgate issued

A distributor of Colgate toothpaste has issued a recall due to the ingredient diethylene glycol (DEG) chemical, which is found in anti-freeze. All children and those adults who are affected with liver or kidney disease are in the most danger. Long term use of these Colgate products even in a healthy adult could cause serious injury. Colgate, which has long been known for useless and out-of-date animal testing on their products, is having to recall many different types of this dangerous and defective products. Some of the varieties include Regular, Gel, Triple and Herbal. If you posses these dangerous Colgate toothpastes stop using immediately. If you or a family member have been injured as a result seek medical help and then contact an attorney immediately. The FDA investigation is in its early stages and there is no telling how long Colgate knew of the dangers of its toothpastes. It would also be beneficial to you and your family to make a permanent change away from Colgate products. Paris come on

I am very conservative when it comes to criminals, but for Paris give me a break! The LA county sheriff acknowledges that they have murder convicts as well as those convicted of attempted murder and the courts put Paris in jail for 45 days. Let's compare: Tenn. psycho woman murders her preacher husband gets 210 days in a medical facility. She will serve 2 months of her total sentence. Paris alleged DUI gets 45 days! Ridiculous! Jail is already overcrowded with severe criminals. Radical Judge Sauer needs to be reviewed for this over the top action. Compare: idiot Jason Wahler, "actor" from show Lauguna Beach was convicted of violating probation for driving with a suspended license and BATTERY and he WALKS!! This judge and dopey Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky D. are out of their minds. Personally I think both these idiots are finished. No one can justify 45 days for this type of offense and even then she should have been housed at the less violent facility that most celebrities get otherwise known as the "country club jail."

OUTRAGE! ILL judge rules against legis

In an outrageous action an Illinois federal judge has granted an injunction for the horse slaughter industry! Despite the fact that horse meat is not consumed in the United States. Despite the fact that the people of Illinois had their legislature pass laws outlawing such heinous practices. These slaughter facilities are shipping horse meat overseas after killing American horses! Why do we let this happen. You can help. Contact your United States Congressional Rep or Senator and ask that they support the pending federal legislation to outlaw all horse slaughter. We must end this inhumane practice and prevent our horses from ending up as food in France and Belgium. We did it in Texas, so Illinois is the last slaughter house in the U.S. We also don't want them shipping our horses to Mexico and Canada. We already know how much those countries like to kill (seals in Canada and each other in Mexico, I'm hispanic by the way so take a pill). Please do your part to help American horses!
