Gas prices?

I'm concerned, almost shocked, that no one is talking about the rapidly rising price of gas. Sure there is the great potential for another military conflict between the US, Britain and Iran, but is that speculation really a reason for gas prices to jump so high? Despite the "Russian leak" I don't think we will actually be going to "war" within the next week. Sure we never really know but its doubtful.

I reside in South Texas, home to a refinery and we have always had inexpensive gas. Today its $2.49 for reg unleaded. I'm sure in other parts of the country its higher. I'm well aware that my 2nd favorite state, California, has the highest prices (no doubt punishment for their anti-republican views). Anyway, no one seems to notice this problem. No one, other than a few people who post on Digg, del.icio.us, and a couple blogs are really talking about a conflict with Iran. Ok a few political news shows mention it too, but the general public does not seem to care. Or maybe they just have not noticed yet. Am I wrong? Are people talking about it and I'm just not hearing it? How can we not be outraged at this rise in gas prices? Is there any less demand today than yesterday or a month ago when we paid closer to $2 rather than $3. It just seems strange to me that there does not appear to be much outrage out in the public over these rising prices. Maybe we are all too distracted by the potential for conflict and the current military situation in Iraq.

Thank you Burger King!

I have always liked Burger King but now I like them even more. The US Humane Society has announced that Burger King is improving its animal welfare policies to begin addressing some of the worst abuses endured by farm animals. The company is taking action on three critical areas: battery cages for laying hens, gestation crates for breeding pigs, and slaughter methods for chickens. If you do not understand the significance of this and how badly animals are treated then I would ask that you review the post regarding Wolfgang Puck or visit the Humane Society web site directly http://www.hsus.org/ .

March to war part 2

Just in case you have not noticed, many pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together. Although I hope it does not come down to this, but apparently the US gov't has wanted war with Iran for quite some time. It was supposedly planned shortly after 9/11. But now with the recent capture of British troops it makes it an even greater possibility.

Today the news cautious. British Prime Minister Tony Blair warned Iran of a "different phase" of action should they continue to hold these men. And Russian news agencies are reporting that the Russian gov't is pulling out key personnel from Iran. Also, as with all of this, rumors are about that the Russian "intelligence" has witnessed massive US troop build-up along the Iranian border. Of course the US just happens to be conducting war games in the Persian Gulf, just as we did in March 2003 before we invaded Iraq.

So what does it all mean? Who knows but it is a problem because all this speculation is causing the price of gas to rise and rise quickly. Any little excuse or activity can cause this to happen. Today futures prices shot up $5 but the cost of oil per barrel closed only up $1.59 US dollars. But even then that is significant. So be aware, not afraid, but aware of these conditions and be prepared to pay more for gas until these matters are resolved.

Bi-partisan thank you

Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act (H.R. 137) by a landslide vote -- 368 to 39. It is great that so many reps voted for this important legislation. However, many of you may be surprised to see that 39 voted against it. When the next election comes we need to remember those 39. To see how your rep voted check this link provided by the US Humane Society https://community.hsus.org/ct/k1qVZwp1_XE9/

The fight is not over. Now the US Senate has to vote. So again I encourage you all to contact your US Senators and ask them to SUPPORT this bill. Thanks.

alaska sucks

What the hell is wrong with you people? From a previous post I stated that I like guns and when I was younger I did some hunting. But this is ridiculous! The governor of alaska announced this week that the state will pay $150 for any wolf killed if the shooter turns in the dismembered legs of the wolves! What kind of sick person dreams this stuff up? Now you may ask yourself, why should I care about alaska? Well I don't myself however I encourage people not to vacation there and if you didn't know already, the federal government pays lots of money to the state in oil taxes and other revenue schemes developed over the years. Not to mention the gas stations you buy gas from, those big oil companies that drill in alaska pay them money too. So in a round about way you may be contributing the money alaska is paying out for these wolf kills. And yes it was on purpose that I wrote alaska with small "a" because they are becoming so insignificant and so out of the main stream of America, we should disown the state. Give them back to the Russians.

Good news for ducks and geese!

from Forbes news: "Chef Wolfgang Puck Bans Foie Gras. Puck said Thursday he will no longer serve foie gras, the fatty liver produced by overfeeding ducks and geese. His 14 fine-dining restaurants, more than 80 fast-casual eateries and 43 catering venues will use only eggs from hens that have lived cage-free; veal from roaming calves; and lobsters that have been removed from their ocean traps quickly to avoid crowded holding tanks."

This is great news! I could not be happier that such a talented chef would buck the trend and take these huge steps to end the needless suffering of so many animals. I encourage everyone to show your support and buy his products, eat at his locations and be able to enjoy the fine foods that he creates. Many thanks to Wolfgang Puck!

latest on pet food recall: rat poison

Reports are coming out that some form or type of rat poison was found in the contaminated pet food that has recently been recalled. A news conference is scheduled for later this afternoon to discuss these findings.

march to war

The month of March is almost over but today we hear of the Iranians taking 15 British soldiers hostage. And yesterday the Democrats asking that our troops be out of Iraq by March 2008. Things are really heating up again. The US was already strongly considering war with Iran. No doubt Bush is pushing the British to escalate this matter to the fullest extent. I'm not anti-war myself but I do understand the family members of those troops that are in harms way. And obviously as you can see from my other posts, I do not agree with using animals in war. So from that regard I am a bit anti-war and want our troops and animals to come home. However, we cannot abandoned Iraq completely. This would open the door to Iran to take over the entire area. So to all my anti-war friends I ask you to consider the fact that we will always need to have soldiers in the area to keep Iraq a democracy and not a bunch of religious zealots like Iran.

suspect in Chevy's murder held

A suspect in the beheading and murder of Chevy the dog is being held. It appears that this crazy idiot 24 year old had a love interest in the 17 year old girl who was Chevy's pet parent. This idiot better hope he gets jail time for he's cruelty, because I think he would be safer in jail than out on the streets.

GUNS

Guns have been in the news a lot. I like guns. I was a hunter as a kid but now I could not bring myself to shoot an animal. But I still like guns. And I have guns, at home for security. Now the news lately has been bad for home owners in Tennessee, as a Home Owners Association (HOA) has decided to ban guns from homes in a particular neighborhood. I can think of a few neighborhoods in my town who should not have guns but I doubt they have a HOA to tell them that. Also here in Texas our legislature passed a bill called the Castle bill that would allow a person to shot first and ask questions later to protect their home and family. First, know that I am conservative when it comes to crime. I like this bill. Sure lots of mistakes or accidents are likely to happen but here in Texas you are allowed to carry a firearm at all times, as long as you have a permit. Of course many places, public businesses and government offices prohibit guns inside their buildings, but still its allowed in public. Now comes Iowa. The legislature is considering banning guns for people accused of domestic violence or people who have restraining orders. Again, a very good idea. If you are dangerous, violent or have committed a crime, you should lose your right to a gun. But would they create an exception to having one at home? That's the thing about the law. All laws seem to have exceptions. And in some cases, exceptions to the exception. Figure that one out. Feel free to give your opinion. What are the laws in your state? What should they be?

Dog saves the day, again

Just like with all the people rescued from the snow and mountains, a dog has come thru again to rescue the lost and disoriented boy scout. So why is it that our great country cannot afford theses great animals more protections? The laws are weak when it comes to protected dogs and cats from abuse and neglect. People often say "its just a dog" well as we have seen time and time again, its just a dog that continues to rescue us humans. Let's do the right thing and grant them the protections they deserve!

Texas HB 2328

Please support Texas House Bill 2328. It protects helpless and homeless animals from abuse. Please urge your state rep and state senator to support this vital bill. A duplicate bill is pending in the Texas senate. For those of you who may not remember, this bill would have helped Queso the cat who was skinned and decapitated by a couple of Baylor University (cat killer U) baseball players. They got off free because we did not have this bill on the books as law. Please do your part. Contact your reps!

Also fellow pet parents, keep an eye on the ever growing list of pet foods for BOTH cats and dogs that is being recalled.

your pet(s)

If you have not heard yet there is a huge pet food recall going on. This list of foods being recalled keeps growing. It covers both cat and dog foods. Please visit my link to recallcases.com for more immediate info.

Also in a couple of days the Canadians will begin their yearly baby seal slaughter. I encourage you to oppose this action. Contact the major animal groups to sign a petition. Add these groups to your MySpace page and other site you may run. You can find them on my page at www.myspace.com/bmwbob

Follow up to Chevy the dog murder

Here is a link to the US Humane Society page to donate to the reward for the killer who beheaded Chevy:
https://secure.hsus.org/01/justiceforchevy

Isn't Bush from Texas?

Makes a person wonder when the President of the United States is from Texas and yet according to a Forbes report Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children. And who is second? Florida.
"The states with the highest percentage of uninsured children were Texas, 20.3 percent and Florida, 16.9 percent"

Good and bad

The bad part of today is that some poor girl found her lost dog dead. She received the dog's head in a box. The good part is that a huge majority of my fellow Digg readers were outraged and sickened by this act. It actually restores my faith in people. I have every confidence in God that the dog is in a better place now and does not know the horror it went thru. We, as humans, have to suffer at the thought of what the poor animal had to endure. But I am very pleased at how angry people are and that they are demanding justice for this killer. Also thanks to the police who are investigating this case as A HOMICIDE. Because that's what it is and should be. The humane society of the US is offering a $2500 reward. As I posted on Digg I would gladly double that amount if the killer(s) were tortured before turned into police. Hopefully with their little private parts shoved in their mouths. Jail would be too good for him/them.

Big tech biz news

Cisco and WebEx announced today that Cisco is going to acquire WebEx. Cisco continues to make key acquisitions. Definitely a good stock buy. Always purchase on a down trend but its good for the long haul. Never buy a stock on one person's recommendation. Always do your research and/or consult a professional before buying any stock.

Oh what a day

I am definitely not one to be ungrateful. If you can read this then you can see. If you can see, you can admire the beauty in the world. Simple pleasures, the birds, the trees, colorful flowers. But everyday we re-live the same battles, whether its the Iraq conflict ( I won't call it a war bc well we are not at war with Iraq), Dems vs Repubs, the torture and killing of innocent animals. Do you realize that at this very moment, day after day, there is a caged animal suffering so that you can have the next wonder drug (which may in fact cause you more harm than good). There are animals suffering bc the Chinese people are too naive to understand contemporary medicine. Its ridiculous! Our politicians get elected promising to bring new hope. Saying they are going to unite us, not divide us. Well we all know how that turned out. It just gets tiring after so long. We all live thru this and we all deal with it. But shouldn't we do more? Should we try to make thing better. At least we read and we post and we try to educate people to make them aware of what is happening outside their small town or bug city. At the very least we can save a dog or cat, help a child or talk to an old person confined to a home or hospital. But do something! Tomorrow is a new day and the suffering of people and animals will still be there. We fight on! We must fight on!

Come on Texas!

To all my fellow Texans I was horrified to learn that 2 state politicians want to pass a law allowing for the slaughter of horses. How can this be? In the year 2007 we have nothing more to worry about than the killing of innocent horses for human consumption overseas. These 2 politicians, beholden to the horse meat industry, want to pass legislation that a majority of Texans and Americans are against. The US Congress voted last year to outlaw this practice however it has not become law as of yet. Please contact your state reps here in Texas and tell them you are against this ridiculous practice. We do not eat horse meat in Texas or anywhere in America. Its wrong!

This is from the US Humane Society:
Each year almost 100,000 horses are slaughtered in the United States for diners in Europe and Japan. These riding, race, and carriage horses are in good condition but are bought at auction by killer buyers and transported from all over the country to Texas and Illinois for slaughter. Many were stolen and sent to auction so their former owners are often totally unaware of the pain, fear and suffering their horses endure before being slaughtered.

TV for your phone, on demand

Just in case you missed the story on Digg.com here is a news story from Reuters regarding NBC's on demand service of tv shows on your cell. Also I read the other day that NBC is starting a new program for repeat tv shows that are altered with new parts. If I can find the article I'll post it.

NEW YORK, March 14 (Reuters) - NBC Universal said on Wednesday it will sell prime-time television shows like "The Office" and "Heroes" on demand over cell phone networks in the United States.
Viewers will be able to purchase full episodes of top-rated NBC shows starting at $1.99 for a 24-hour period. NBC said it is working with MobiTV to provide the service, part of a mobile television network first created in 2003.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new blog! After reading all the heavy comments about so many subjects I felt it necessary to start a blog of my own. So read on and feel free to post about whatever subjects come up.
