Thank you Burger King!

I have always liked Burger King but now I like them even more. The US Humane Society has announced that Burger King is improving its animal welfare policies to begin addressing some of the worst abuses endured by farm animals. The company is taking action on three critical areas: battery cages for laying hens, gestation crates for breeding pigs, and slaughter methods for chickens. If you do not understand the significance of this and how badly animals are treated then I would ask that you review the post regarding Wolfgang Puck or visit the Humane Society web site directly http://www.hsus.org/ .

this is good news, but this trend for "humanely" raising animals might be counterproductive in the longterm. it might just allow people to justify to themselves the continued killing of animals.

animals themselves want to avoid death at least as much as they want to avoid pain. so if we really cared about animals, we wouldn't eat them. i'm afraid that might get lost in congratulating meat producers and buyers for slightly reducing the degree to which they torture animals.
